Journalists hone their skills on TV and radio presentation and announcing

The Media High Council has trained 25 journalists on TV and Radio presentation & announcing with the aim of sharpening their skills and thus, helping them accomplish their duties professionally.

The training was conducted from May 13th-18th, 2019, at Hotel La Palisse, Nyamata in Bugesera District.

During the one-week training, journalists from various local TV & radio stations received training from Henry Mapesa, a lecturer in Journalism at the Institut Catholique de Kabgayi and Bakina Wellars, from the University of Rwanda’ School of Journalism.

The trainees covered different topics from the technical standpoint of TV anchoring & radio productions to enhanced aspects of live radio and television broadcasts.

Rutayisire Bonaventure Aisha, City Radio's Chief Editor, said that the training enhanced their skills especially on how to prepare and direct different TV & Radio programmes.

“We learned that before anchoring, presenters must research, prepare a detailed script in order for the audience to get a clear understanding of the topic or the stories. As presenters, we must also have quick reflexes while On Air, in order for the show or broadcast to run smoothly,” she added

The Executive Secretary of The Media High Council, Peacemaker Mbungiramihigo believes that journalists who attended the aforementioned training are going to boost the Media sector as they work more professionally with their newly-acquired skills.

“To accomplish your duties as journalists and pioneers of change, you need to be well-prepared, and know how to separate real news from fake news, and I believe that the skills you have gathered from here will be of great help”. He said

He added that the Media High Council will continue to partner with different organizations and institution to build the capacity of Journalists and managers for Rwanda to have the media that play a great role in the country’s development.

All 25 journalists were given a certificate as proof that they completed the training successfully.
