Journalists killed during Genocide against Tutsi were remembered

Remembered Journalists killed during Genocide against Tutsi

Journalists who were murdered during the 1994 Genocide against the Tutsi have been remembered as Rwandans mourn for over a million victims of the world’s worst Genocide ever. Commemoration activities were organized in a joint effort of Media High Council (MHC), Rwanda Broadcasting Agency (RBA ) and Rwanda Journalists Association (ARJ).

The event was observed on Thursday evening at RBA headquarters with top dignitaries in the country, in media sector, journalists and families of slain journalists.

The Minister of Local Government Francis Kaboneka requested journalists to embrace the truth,

“Currently, Rwanda needs professional journalists standing for the truth, and interests of the nation,” he insisted.

The minister requested journalists to combat those who deny and trivialize the Genocide  against the Tutsi by all possible means.

“To fight against Genocide  ideology, we need to constantly carry on the fight using media and ICT because some evil people have not yet come from evilness and still teach revisionism using Media. We have capacity and knowledge to use technology in media to fight against them” Emphasized the Minister.

“We must combat those who deny and trivialize the Genocide against the Tutsi by all possible means. We do not have to wait for what they said; we rather have to preemptively tell our true story”. He added.

The Executive Secretary of The Media High Council Peacemaker  Mbungiramihigo urged journalists to do their jobs of informing, educating and entertaining people by looking far  to build  a peaceful country without discrimination.

“You should report news that can help bring peace and build a secure tomorrow for our children, a country without discrimination and you should work for the interest of a nation not for selfish desires” He said.
