Journalists trained on strategic reporting of national development programmes

On 6th July 2017, 48 media practitioners completed an eight -day practical training on strategic reporting on National Development Programmes. It was held from 28th June- 6th July 2017, in 8 districts: Karongi, Rutsiro, Huye , Gisagara, Rwamagana, Kayonza, Gicumbi , Nyagatare. The training has been organized by the Media High Council in partnership with the UNDP and The Local Administrative Entities Development Agency (LODA).

The training aims at strengthening the capacity of journalists to report on the National Strategy for Community Development and Local Economic Development (LED) to contribute to the effective implementation of Vision 2020, The Second Economic Development and Poverty Reduction Strategy (EDPRS II), and 7 year government programs.

Speaking to the participants, Peacemaker MBUNGIRAMIHIGO, the Executive Secretary of the Media High Council highlighted the media’s power to hold the Government to account, by advocating for citizens to improve their lives.

During his presentation, Mr. NSANZIMFURA Djafari, representing LODA’s Director General emphasized on the media’s crucial role in development participatory planning process.

Participants appreciated the MHC’s initiative to organize such practical training that enabled them to interact with citizens and local leaders in their localities which helped them produce professional and accurate stories.
