Community radios managers interacted with stakeholders on how to Empower Local Radios with ICTs”

Kigali, October 14, 2015, the UNESCO launches a two day Inception workshop for its SIDA funded project themed “Empowering Local Radios with ICTs” scheduled to take place from 14 to 15 October 2015 at the Hilltop Hotel and the Country Club in Kigali, Rwanda. During this workshop, the participants will learn more about the project and its expected results, as well as measures put in place to ensure the smooth implementation of this project.

Three roundtable discussions will provide community radio practitioners with an opportunity to interact with stakeholders on a number of issues including how to leverage the potential of ICTs to empower community radios in Rwanda; community radio and infrastructure; professional journalism and community radios and, strengthening networking among journalists and with relevant stakeholders.

The workshop attracted participants from the Swedish International Development Cooperation (SIDA), Rwanda National Commission for UNESCO, Media High Council, Rwanda Media Commission, Ministry of Youth and ICT in Rwanda, Rwanda Telecentre Network, Rwanda Community Radio Network (RERAC), Radio Izuba FM, Huguka FM, Radio Isangano FM, and Radio Ishingiro FM.

This event is part of UNESCO’s ongoing SIDA funded project themed: “Empowering Local Radios with ICTs” (2015-2017) that aims at building capacities of radio practitioners in Kenya, Rwanda and Uganda.
