31 Media Managers including 25 Males and 6 Females have been trained on New Media Business Models and Modern Media Management from 21st-26th January 2019. The training took place at Centre Pastoral Notre Dame de Fatima, in Musanze District.
Opening the training, the Executive Secretary of the Media High Council Peacemaker MBUNGIRAMIHIGO, said the training was organized in reference to findings from different researches conducted by Media High Council which revealed that there are still limited skills in regard to media business management. For example, a research on Media Business growth with capacity needs assessment published in 2014 showed that 67% of media managers worked without business plan.
Peacemaker urged media managers to be innovative as there are in a competitive market, to embrace specialization in their media houses, to always increase their skills, to change their working system and work in synergy in order to promote their media houses. He ensures media partners are ready to support their projects once they are united and produce an appealing content.
Media Managers learnt how to generate income from the use of Social Media, and discussed with trainers on strategies to produce good and consistent content, strategies to improve newsrooms and strategies to maintain partners in their media houses.
At the end of the training, participants made several commitments. “As a commitment, www.topafricanews.com decides that there could be changes to decentralize the tasks. Explicitly, we will do all possible to set up two departments namely: The Editorial department and the other one in charge of marketing. We will do this between March-December 2019,’’ Said Ange de la Victoire, the Managing Director of Topafricanews.
“We decide to revise our business plan and respect it, and to put more efforts in the use of social media by the February 2019,” Umukunzi Mediatrice, the Managing Director of the thebridge magazine.net said.
Closing the training, Peacemaker MBUNGIRAMIHIGO, the Executive Secretary of Media High Council thanked media managers for attending and the cooperation between Media High Council and their media houses. He urged them to always act as leaders, being exemplary.
