Kigali, on May 27, 2016, the Media High Council (MHC) in partnership with UNDP conducted a practical training for local journalists in Radio advanced reporting and production.
This training focused on the theories and practices of radio journalism and introduced journalists to the advanced and specialized skills of reporting and production for radio news.
At the opening of the training, Peacemaker Mbungiramihigo said that the training was organized for implementing the five years strategic capacity building plan for media that was developed by the MHC and adopted by media stakeholders.
“The MHC developed training collaterals for broadcasting media content creators and management basing on the existing needs of the industry.”He said
“This training aims to improve the skills of journalists working in the field of radio reporting and production by providing short course practical training focusing on specialized radio reporting.” He added
Peacemaker challenged journalists to use the skills acquire during the training in reporting stories that are the citizen need centred.
“You are the bridge between citizen and leaders, make sure that you are the voice of the voiceless, your stories need to respond to the citizen problem, to inform and educate them about the government policy and strategies.”
The Country Director of the UNDP in Rwanda, Stephen Rodriques , who officially closed the workshop said: “the workshop will help journalists to gain skills which will help them to be more professional . He added that the UNDP will continue to promote media development in Rwanda.”
The training draw together twenty five (25) Radio journalists, representing different Media Houses. After attending this preparatory workshop, journalists will pursuit a practical training in different Districts from 28 May-4 June 2016.
